The health professions advisor is integral to the admissions and exploration process for applicants interested in pursuing a career in health professions. The National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions serves as a resource for the professional development of health professions advisors.
It is a representative voice with health professions schools and their professional associations, undergraduate institutions, and other health professions organizations. The Association promotes high standards for health professions advising at universities and colleges. It assists advisors in fostering the intellectual, personal, and humanistic development of students as they prepare for careers in health professions.

The Southeastern Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (SAAHP) is comprised of colleges and universities in the Southeastern U.S. concerned with the preparation of students for further study in a wide variety of health-related professions, including allopathic and osteopathic medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, physician assistants, nursing, pharmacy, medical technology, chiropractic, and others. Together with three other regional organizations they comprise the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP).
